Is your computer chugging?
A few days ago I happened upon an extremely guide for tweaking your machine to improve frame rate in TOR, the best part is that requires little to no computer experience, because the author explains it all. Just follow the Instructions and you'll be on your way to running TOR 10-30 FPS faster. Personally I saw a major change, and I went from 10ish FPS on the Imperial Fleet to somewhere between 20-30 depending on player density
Here's the guide:
There are only 2 suggestions this guide doesn't make that I would, one is to run TOR in compatibility mode for Windows XP Service Pack 3. By default certain games in Windows 7 don't make use of all the possible virtual memory. By running in compatibility mode the game will recognize whatever amount you have it set it to.
How to do this:
1. Right-click the TOR icon on your desktop and select Properties.
2. Select the Compatibility tab
3. Check the Run This Program in Compatabilty Mode Box and select the Compatibility Mode drop down menu and choose Windows XP (Service Pack 3).
4. Hit Apply and you're good to go.
The other is a temporary bug work around that most people don't even know is effecting them. The graphics options in the preferences section is bugged and, for most systems, don't actually change anything. The way I got around the bug is to switch the graphics, using the high, medium, low drop down menu. Switch it to high, then switch it whichever graphic option that suits your fancy. and it should
help your frame rate. I say should, because some people have also reported that their game is stuck on high. If that's the case you'll just have to wait until they patch it.
This guide is for those of us with crappy computers. In the next few days i'll be post a guide to get the game to run on ultra-high settings, including metal reflection, forcing AA on, and a significant view distance quality increase.
